School officially started on Thursday. I’m taking all IB/AP classes and I am already swamped. It is going to be my hardest year and I am not excited. On Thursday, I got to know the teachers and the workload. I also don’t have any friends in my lunch period, which made me sad because then I don’t get to see them at all. On Friday, some of the teachers started real class and I had a ton of homework for the weekend. I also had my first practice for Poms. We reviewed the sidelines for football games. I am so excited for the game this week because it is the biggest football game of the year and is super fun.
On Saturday, I woke up at 11 and got ready. My dad and I went to go get shoes for me, it took a while to find the most basic shoe, but I finally got it. After, we went to Costco for shopping and to get pictures for my portfolio. My photos wouldn’t download, so I could only print a couple. We finished shopping and went to Walgreens to get my photos printed. It was too expensive so we drove to Walmart. It was even more expensive. We then drove to a different Costco and got my photos printed. Saturday was a lot of driving to so many different places for one thing. On Sunday, I woke up and had a casting for Denver Fashion Week at 12. I got there and it was in a big warehouse with many people. I had arrived for the teen casting, so they had my walk and stand in a line. Some of the girls then got casted to walk with a designer, but I didn’t. After, they sent a bunch of girls home, but they said I looked old enough for the adult category. The ones that got to stay just waited around until 3:30. During that time, I met a bunch of new people and it was great getting to know them. At 3:30, the 5’8” and above people started arriving. They were all so intimidating because they were so much taller than me. They told us all to get into a large circle, so the designers could pick us. I got picked by a designer named Rachel for the first show. I waited in the circle for another hour before getting chosen for another show. This was for a thing called Beauty Underground. After, the 5’8” and under came. I didn’t get chosen for any shows this round, so I got to go home. I was so tired at the end and my feet hurt super bad. I went home and crashed. Monday was normal with lots of homework. On Tuesday, I had school and dance. After dance, I had to go back to school for freshman parent night. Since I am on knight crew, I had to go volunteer. It was super boring and a waste of time. After, I went home after and did lots of homework. Learning to manage stress is the key to succeeding in high school. -Jamie

I have been back in Colorado for over a week and I haven't done anything super interesting. I got back and hung out with friends for a couple days. Hanging out with them was fun because I got to tell them about my trip and I got to see them after an entire month of not seeing any friends. After that, I dove into my summer homework. I have been reading and studying for the SAT. For reading, I have to read The Cheating Culture and The Scarlett Letter. They are both interesting in their own ways. I like The Cheating Culture because it opened my eyes to things I didn't even realize and showed me how much cheating goes on in the world and within every industry. The Scarlett Letter is a classic and it is interesting, but I have to annotate it, which makes it feel like work and not for enjoyment. I would like reading a lot more if I didn't have to annotate anything. I would be fine analyzing it, but annotation is busy work. The SAT is something that I have to do, but I don't enjoy it. I don't think that the SAT is good test of knowledge because everyone is good at different things and that test puts everyone in a box of society. That is why high school students no longer have any creativity. It is because everyone is expected to fit into a mold of a smart and nothing else. But everyone is different. Some people may be terrible at math but is a genius in drawing. They don't get to let their creativity shine in any way and that talent goes to waste. Sorry for the rant, but I am very passionate about standardized tests.
School starts in a week and I am not ready. I have knight crew so I have to go in the 14th and 15th to help the freshmen. School starts on the 16th for everyone else. I am not excited. Don't get me wrong, seeing my friends is great and all, but I signed myself up for way too much this next year. I am taking all IB/AP classes except for math. I am hoping that I have enough time to get everything done, plus Poms. I am excited for Poms this year. It makes me less stressed and helps me get my mind off of school. It lets me do something other than fit into the mold of school. Being different is good. -Jamie |
