The second semester of senior year has been a whirlwind. First, 2020 has not been a good year for the world at all because so many bad things have happened. Rough start, but hopefully it will get better. For college, I have gotten into UC Riverside, CU Boulder, and Loyola Marymount. They are all great options, but I am still waiting to hear back from a bunch of other schools.
Two weeks ago, I went to Los Angeles for the UCLA dance clinic to prepare for tryouts. My sister and I got brunch near Venice Beach in the morning and then walked around. I love the vibe that Los Angeles gives off, and I can imagine myself living there. For the clinic, there weren't as many people as I thought there was going to be. The majority of them already went to UCLA. I was one of the few seniors that went and probably the only one from out of state. Cheer and dance stretched together and then we split up. First, we went across the floor. It was pretty fun going across the floor, and my technique was solid. I need to smile more, though. After, we learned the fight song. This part was by far the hardest because I was not used to the style. It was tough to learn and retain it. I got called out for being one of the best, which is good news because the coach said that the fight song is the hardest part. Next, we learned a fun and sassy dance. It was jazzy with hip hop mixed into it. It was an enjoyable dance, and I had fun. That was the time where I got to be myself and go crazy. All of this took around two hours, and then we sat down for a Q & A session about practice, commitment, and the season overall. It was insightful to see how people balanced their time. I hope that I get into the school so I can try out for the team. It is my dream school, and I am dreaming about going there. After the clinic, my sister and I got Japanese food. It was a super short trip as I was only really there for a day. I love Los Angeles so much, and I love flying over there to visit my sister and explore. Recently, my tennis season started but got cut short because of Corona Virus. I got to play one game and won, which was nice. It was a real confidence booster for the start of the season. That night, I found out that school was canceled because someone at CU contracted the virus. Everyone has been going crazy because of the virus, like getting three years' worth of toilet paper. I don't understand that logic at all if quarantine is only two weeks, no one needs that much toilet paper. Anyway, I have two weeks of school off. I am checking out of school because I don't have that much school left, which blows my mind. This year has been the most exciting and fun year I have ever had, and I don't want it to be over. Now because of the virus, my prom might be canceled. I already bought my dress, so one way or another, I am going to celebrate my senior prom. I don't care if I have to dance alone in my room. I am going to wear that dress. Last update! I recently signed with Wilhelmina Denver as a model! I am so excited to work with them and grow my career. I had a test shoot with them to build my book, which was super fun. I had three super cute outfits that I shot in. We shot outside with a lot of different backgrounds, and I hope the photos turn out okay. I am still waiting for the pictures back, so wish me luck! Cherish every moment that you have with the people you love. -Jamie
