The past few days in California have been very fun and chill. On Monday, my family went out to lunch in Santa Monica at a place called One Pico. It was right next to the beach, so it was very relaxing. I got a mushroom pasta and lobster bisque. After, we walked along the beach. I don't think I will ever get tired of the beach. Nanxi tried to climb a rope, but she didn't have the right shoes for it. Last time we did this, she showed up a bunch of guys and it was super funny and cool. After walking for a while, we decided to go to the Getty Villa. It is a very interesting museum and house of a rich family. The was many cool Greek and Roman artifacts and sculptures. We decided to go back home afterward to cook steak for dinner. It is a stressful process, but it turned out okay. My dad had his flight that night, so the rest of the night I just watched T.V.
Yesterday hurt my brain. Nanxi wanted me to start preparing for the SAT, so she set me up with a test. I took the entire SAT and it was very hard. The math section was the hardest section because I hadn't learned some things that were on it. After that, Nanxi, her boyfriend, my tutor and I went out to eat. I got ramen and it was amazing. I think California has the best food. The rest of the day was pretty boring. I just watched T.V for a good three hours. Today has been a pretty chill day. I ate and watched some Netflix. Today, I am going to be able to read a book that no one has ever seen before. I get to help decide if the book should become a movie or not. I usually don't like reading, but when a decision like this comes out of it, I am willing to read anything. California has so many opportunities for you to do something amazing. -Jamie

Spring break is next week and of course I had to go somewhere. I decided to go to Los Angeles with my dad to visit my sister. Nanxi is one of the most amazing and successful people ever and I am lucky to be her little sister. I love going to California to visit my sister but I also love California because of the weather.
The flight there was interesting. After we took off, the flight attendants started handing out the golden tickets that American Idol contestants receive if they get in. They announced that they were doing a promotion for American Idol and handed us some free earbuds. They had us sign waivers for being on camera and then announced that each person on the plan would get 200 dollars on a plane ticket anywhere. I basically got money just for being on that flight and it was great. The rest of the flight was normal and boring. After we got off the plane, my dad and I took an Uber to my sister’s house. Once we settled in, her friend Ben and his dad came for dinner. It was a very fun and interesting evening. Today was my first full day in Los Angeles. In the morning, my dad and I went to the grocery store to get food because my sister’s house has no food. Turns out things in California are much more expensive than Colorado. Who knew? Anyway, after we got back, we started setting up for Nanxi’s house warming party. People started to show up around 1:30. The people that I met during this event were such interesting and amazing people. They have all accomplished so much in their lives and they are such an inspiration. This group of people is also a very versatile group with so many different careers. It was so cool hearing all of the opinions and stories. Sadly, my interesting night ends there. The rest of the night, I did homework and ate. Being social and lead to so many new opportunities. -Jamie It is the week before spring break and of course I have to do something to mess it up. I was at dance this Tuesday and we were doing our normal things. Our team is trying to get a team aerial, so we work on them every week. I was super close to getting my aerial, so I went for it. In the middle of my jump, I doubted myself and freaked out. I thought I was going to die and land on my head. To stop that, I put my arm down really fast, but it went down locked. All the pressure from my jump went into my elbow and after, it hurt pretty bad. I thought I just strained the muscle and the pain would go away after a while. I sat out the rest of dance class and went to violin afterwards. It started to hurt really badly, so my violin teacher put ice on it. My dad decided afterward that I would need to go to the doctors office the next morning. I was in so much pain that night that I didn't do any homework.
The next morning, I woke up at my normal time because I thought my appointment was early in the morning. Turns out I didn't need to wake up that early because the office hadn't even opened. So, while my dad was dropping of my carpool, I slept for another hour. When he came back, we went to the doctors office. The doctor told me that he wanted to get me x-rays to see if I had a broken bone. I also got my last HPV shot and it hurt so bad. After I got x-rays, the doctor told me that I didn't have a broken bone thank god, but that I should just rest it and see how it feels. He gave me a sling and let me go. The entire appointment took two hours and I didn't get that much out of it. Now, I can't dance, play tennis or play violin for a few weeks. I basically lost everything that makes me happy in half a second. The rest of the day was pretty good except my arm. I can't do anything without an arm and it is frustrating. I went out to lunch with my friends and then did homework the rest of the night. Everything can change in a second. -Jamie This morning was very eventful. It started off as a normal day with waking up and getting to school. When I got to school, the admin were running around with police showing up. I got to my first period when it was announced that there was a lock out. A lock out is when class continues but no one is allowed to get in or leave. After a few minutes, the office announced that we were going into a lockdown. We all got crammed into a corner of the room where we weren't allowed to talk. I had no idea what was going on, so I snapped my friends. They all said that there was a gun and possible shooter in the school. I started to get really scared since a school shooting just happened. I never thought that I would have to prepare for a shooting. I kept talking to my friends to make myself feel better. The lock down ended about an hour later and I was relieved that nothing bad happened. The office announced what had happened. A kid from color guard had been holding a wooden rifle to school since it didn't fit in his bag. Someone thought it was a gun case and called it in. Once I heard that, I rolled my eyes. We stayed sitting on the floor for almost an hour and fearing for our lives for the school to tell us that it was a prop. The rest of the day, everyone was feeling a little shaken up by the thought that our school could have been the next school with a shooting. I am glad that the police took precautions even though it was nothing. I hope in the future we don't have to worry about our safety anywhere.
Take precautions even if think that it is nothing. You might save someone. -Jamie Yesterday was a very inspiring day. It was the day of the national walk out to honor the Parkland shooting and to show the government that we need change; if adults aren't going to do anything, then we will. The day started off pretty normal with the students going to first period. At 10:00, most of us left our classes and were silent for seventeen minutes in honor of the victims in the shooting. During this time, we walked to the football field to listen to speeches after the silence. The first couple speeches were from Fairview students telling us that we can make a change and that this is just the beginning of a movement. They told us to make a difference in contacting representatives and vote to make a change. After, three students from Parkland came to give speeches. They told us their stories and about what happened to them. It really brought a new perspective about how this could easily happen to any school at any time and how much we can make a difference coming together to fight. After the students spoke, a couple of adults gave speeches. They told us how proud they are of how we are taking initiative and how much we are impacting the country. I am so proud of students around the country fighting for what we think is right. I think guns are a horrible thing and that the government should ban them. No one needs any kind gun let alone a semi automatic weapon. This has happened in the U.K. Their government banned guns after many school shootings and now they are one of the safest countries in the world. The U.S should follow this example to make everyone feel safe and not have to worry about their lives.
After the rally, I went to lunch with my friends Lainey, Margot and Luna. We went to a boba place called Lollicup. I got a mango milk tea and it was amazing. Lainey and Margot had to leave to go to class, but since Luna and I had fifth period off, we went to The Corner. I decided to try something new and get a steak sandwich. It was a mistake because it did not taste good. The steak was really tough and flavorless and a waste of money. We stayed there for a while and talked a bit. Luna is always so positive, fun and can put a smile on anyone's face. Then, we took the bus to Lucky's Market. I got Kombucha there. If you don't know what that is, it is kind of like a carbonated tea. It tastes kind of like soda but is way healthier. The rest of the day was pretty chill and fun. If you don't like the way something is, be the person to take action and change it. -Jamie. This weekend was the most fun weekend I have had in a long time. On Friday, I hung out with Shannon after school. We got Wholefoods pizza and started watching Ferris Bueller's Day Off. That movie is one of my all time favorite movies because it is so funny. After that, we went and got our nails done. I got a pale pink and they look amazing on camera. We biked to the nail salon and by the time we were done, it was dark outside. I hate biking in general, so biking in the dark was hell and super scary. After I left Shannon's house, I had to go to the apple store to get my phone fixed. They told me that they didn't have time to check my phone and to go back the next morning. My phone kept restarting and had no service and I needed it to get fixed because I basically couldn't use it.
On Saturday, I got to the mall super early. They told me that it was an hour and a half wait, so I went shopping. I got two new tank tops at Pacsun and they are super cute. I think that Pacsun has become one of my favorite stores because their clothes are so cute and comfortable. Finally, I got an appointment to get my phone fixed. I went into the store and they just gave me a new phone. It was a total waste of time, but I got another brand new phone. In the afternoon, I went to Pearl St. with my friend Io to take pictures for my portfolio. We went through a bunch of alleys and stores. It turns out Urban Outfitters has great backgrounds for pictures. It was super fun and we got so many great pictures. I am so excited to see them finished. My face in the pictures looks like and RBF and I think it looks weird, but I can't do anything to change it. On Sunday, I had a pretty fun evening. In the morning, I played tennis and did a lot of homework. At night, I had my POMS banquet. It was at school, but they set it up pretty nice. We had dinner from Pasta Jay's and performed a dance. The parents surprised us with a dance and it was so funny. I am sure that they danced better than us. That was the highlight of the night. After, we had team awards. I got team player and a letter for sports. It is sad that the seniors are graduating because they were so much fun and made the season the best dance season I have ever had. We took many pictures and had a lot of fun. It is a bittersweet ending to the season. Life is full of adventure. Go looking for them. -Jamie This week has been pretty chill and boring. I have a pretty boring life, so people just tell me about their lives and I can try to imagine it. Something interesting that has happened to me is tennis. The tryouts were last week and I thought I did terribly, but I guess I didn't. I got into V2, it is the second top team which is pretty good. Now the weather is amazing and tennis is actually fun. Whenever the coaches are watching me, I play like I have never even held a racket, but when aren't watching, I play like a professional tennis player. I wish it was the opposite.
Yesterday was fun. It was my friend Lainey's birthday, so we went out to lunch with a couple other people. It was fun to spend some time with them outside of school and get food. After that, I went to knight crew and got pizza. It was our last class before we get training in the summer. I am excited to mentor freshman but not really because I know they won't listen. After knight crew, I got to dissect a sheep heart in biology. It was gross in the beginning, but after a while it was cool. We got to see all the different tubes and parts of the heart. I can't handle blood well so I will never be doing this on people. After that, I had tennis and it was relaxing to just play. I had an APUSH document based question test today and I don't think I did very well. I didn't have enough time to finish. I didn't have a conclusion paragraph, so I will get points off for that. My last paragraph was very rushed so I didn't explain my evidence very well and I didn't have time to proofread. Hopefully I do better than I think I did. The rest of today was pretty chill. Tonight, I have to make scrapbook pages for the seniors on my POMS team. I love doing this but I have so much school work to do that I won't be able to make them super good. Life that is boring is better than a life full of drama. -Jamie This week has been a whirlwind of drama. My life got turned upside down within one hour. Let me explain. Two of my friends liked the same guy and I was trying to help them both at once. I told them both relatively the same thing and I thought it was going well until Tuesday night. One of the girls told me something that I wasn't supposed to tell the other, but another girl that knew the secret blurted it out at dance. All the blame got placed on me and both of my friends were mad at me. I hate people being mad at me and it crushed me. I knew that I had to give them both time to cool off before they talked to me. On Thursday though, the both forgave me an it was an amazing feeling. I felt so bad that I almost ruined two friendships and it was glorious when they weren't mad at me. High school drama sucks and is usually about something stupid but I have to deal with it. Hopefully nothing else this year makes people mad at me.
Sometimes you just have to take the blame. -Jamie |
